Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work. C.S. Lewis

Dear Bowdoin Families,

It is our mission to ensure that Bowdoin Central School is the best possible place to learn. In order to accomplish this mission we strive to establish a school environment that is safe, supportive and nurturing for all. We believe that a well rounded educational experience starts with high expectations, strong teaching, caring, consistency, and the philosophy that the best learning occurs when the “whole” child is supported. Every Child Matters!

Students at Bowdoin Central will receive a strong foundation focusing on literacy, math, and the sciences. We also feel strongly that it is our responsibility to support students in their development of social, wellness, civic and relationship skills. We work to ensure that our students are strong members of our communities both locally and globally.

When we talk about school climate as a community we often talk about our Core Values and how they are evident in our school and how they relate to the values of our local community. We work with our students to help them develop and live these values. At BCS we value hopefulness and perseverance. We want our children to have a positive world outlook, to see the light even when things are difficult. We want our students to be poised, prepared, and determined to face challenges. We value unity and empathy; in order to have a vibrant community we must understand and appreciate our differences and celebrate the bond that ties us all together. We  must work together to realize our potential. We value honesty and integrity. We teach our students to be honest and make sound decisions. Part of being honest is celebrating each other's uniqueness and challenges. Finally, we want our student to love learning. We strive to cultivate curiosity in our students. We should all ask questions about the world around us and then engage in the search for answers to these questions. We want our students to be active learners not afraid to make mistakes.

By focusing on these strong academics and social foundations we feel that we will  position our students well to develop into strong and successful members of a greater world. Thank you all for the support and sacrifices you make every day to help our children be ready to learn. We realize the incredible opportunity and responsibility we have and look to continue to grow for this crucial task.

Yours in Education,

Ryan Keith
